The History of the Cardboard Box

  • by

There is no one-true definition of what the word “cardboard” means. The word has been used in many different ways over the years.

In 1856, John Montague introduced a cardboard circular frame which allowed people to see a picture, drawing or photographic image through a mirror. This invention was called an “optical card” and was made of papyrus paper.

In 1891, Thomas Edison patented a box that could be used as an amusement device and were made of cardboard.

In 1912, Ford Motor Company released the first mass-produced car that was also constructed with this new material – Cardboard Boxes: A Source of Cheap Material for Automobiles and Other Vehicles – New York Times

The First Fold-Up Box

The First Fold-Up Box is the company that makes foldable boxes that can be used as a desk.

The First Fold-Up Box was founded by Mr. Michael Felt, who had been looking for a way to bring his idea to life. Originally he had been designing a product specifically for architects and designers, but when he found out how expensive it was to design and manufacture, he decided to create the first fold-up box instead.

After pitching his idea on Shark Tank in 2016, they were able to obtain a $1 million investment from Mark Cuban and Lori Greiner – two of the investors on Shark Tank.

The First Cardboard Boxes For Breakfast

In the past, breakfast has been enjoyed by many people in a few ways. The way breakfast changed in the past century was thanks to new concepts and inventions. One of these changes came about with the advent of steel mills that began producing metal sheeting and eventually tubes for packaging.

Breakfast began to change over the next few years with one simple thing – boxes for food at home. There are records of cardboard boxes being used as early as 1822 but it wasn’t till 1856 that a patent was given out for what is now known as “breakfast cereal.”

The process became even more popular when steel mills started producing metal strip which eventually became rolls of paper. This led to a big shift in breakfast foods, which allowed people to enjoy different options that were previously only available

The First Cardboard Boxes for e-Commerce

The first cardboard boxes for e-commerce were introduced by Frank Harary in 1992. It was a highly efficient way to carry products securely, without damaging the product.

Frank Harary was an entrepreneur who wanted to make the process of packaging and shipping products easier for small businesses that could not afford a warehouse. Hinterly made his first cardboard box out of recycled paper and glue, which would eventually be replaced by corrugated cardboard with more durable quality.

IDEO also made their own cardboard box in order to test it on consumers and they found that they liked it because it felt more light than traditional boxes with plastic linings. This led them to launch the design thinking studio, which is known for its creative designs such as Apple’s first mouse or the PalmPilot personal organizer.
